INTERVIEW 10 years of ex aequo network: What's to tell (with video) pratos a la carte
Support, pratos a la carte foster understanding, visibility and justify defending pratos a la carte LGBT youth in Portugal. The ex aequo network - association of young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and supporters celebrating today officially the 10th anniversary of its founding as a youth organization, but a good few months before already the project - which then would legally constitute an association - teemed , descentralizava pratos a la carte and democratized the LGBT acronym and activism across the country.
Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Cascais, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Covilhã, Évora, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Oporto, Porto, Vila Real and Viseu are cities that have, or already have, running local groups, a kind of harbors and places of meeting and sharing for LGBT youth.
Although the number of volunteers involved in the activities of the last decade is difficult to account for, is estimated to have been over 1500 people to contribute towards other young people, but in these much larger number and more difficult to quantify .
The balance (more than) a decade of work is done in an interview format to the first and current presidents of the association, Rita Paulos and Andreia Pereira respectively, and summarize the projects pratos a la carte that move the youth association.
Rita Paulos: The ex aequo network pratos a la carte does not actually started 10 years ago. The ex aequo network was imagined in March 2000 and came into existence from January 2002, 11 years ago, by decentralizing project, that creates. From that period until April 2003, already exists with that name, but lies embedded within the association ILGA Portugal, while informal network of LGBT youth groups. The date to be marked present is the processing pratos a la carte of ex aequo network youth association, with its own legal status, a major step in the growth of your work and a vital to have achieved its impact over the years and we hope step in March to continue to have.
Begin was the fulfillment of a dream and a vision pratos a la carte that had very concrete, intended to break the isolation and loneliness of LGBT youth in Portugal, including the various parts of the country, creating safe spaces for support and increased self-esteem, and contribute to changing social environment through education and awareness. pratos a la carte
RP: It came to me the idea of creating a network of LGBT youth groups in the country, who shared among themselves a platform and a base structure, resources, ideas and knowledge, pratos a la carte a "Study Session" IGLYO (International Organisation for Youth and Students Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) in late March 2000, in Budapest, in the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe. For a week I participated in a series pratos a la carte of activities and workshops with young LGBT activists from other countries and was asked each of us to the end of the week to submit a project plan that this response to a need in our country. I had this very absence of any recourse or support outside Lisbon, because as co-coordinator of ILGA Portugal YPG just read many emails from girls and boys, asking if there was any group or association in your city. It saddened me to have to answer "no." So, I returned to Portugal and began to ask some friends or acquaintances if they would like to proceed pratos a la carte with this project with me. There are two people who highlight of this period as major contributors: Rui Viegas, who, after me, who else was worked to develop the project, and Laetitia Santos, who also had a very significant contribution.
RP: At that time there were few external voices that found that the task was impossible, that to create multiple groups of LGBT youth across the country, but fortunately the reality and the contribution of hundreds of youngsters over the years, proved otherwise. That was not so hard to find youth to volunteer in various cities - even with some fears, especially as between them and some of them were not assumed - and be willing to receive training pratos a la carte on how to streamline and facilitate a group for young LGBT or questions using non-formal education as a methodology. To this, however, were critical of the project that the posters have posted in almost all districts of the country and the creation of the ex aequo network pratos a la carte online forum that was the first feature created in early February 2002, and that helped us to knowledge of ex aequo network and its objectives, in addition to serving as the first platform for what you wanted to create: a safe, anonymous space (as per the desire of each participant), and support peer learning.
RP: In April 2003, when the network finally becomes ex aequo association, we have a presence for more
